“After visiting Central, I had an overwhelming sense of peace and knew that this was where I needed to be.”

Courtney Simon

Major: Exercise Science

Fun fact about yourself: I have a twin sister, who is also my roommate!

Have you studied abroad, or do you plan to? I studied abroad in the spring of 2017 to Bangor, Wales and I am currently studying in Merida, Mexico.

What are your future goals? My plans are to graduate from Central and further my education at a chiropractic school. Someday I would love to open my own practice. I would like to stay involved with Central post-graduation and continue to show my support and love for the school.

What activities do you participate in on campus? When I’m on campus, I am involved in campus ministries and their discipleship program. I am also an SOS orientation leader and on the Dutch Brigade. This past Tulip Time I was a Dutch dancer! I have read to students at Lincoln Elementary through their Everyone Wins Iowa program and my work study is with the Admission office.

What has been your favorite class? So far, my favorite class has been Human Anatomy and Physiology. I really love human anatomy, so it was fun for me!

Who has been your favorite professor? Why? My favorite professor has been Ashley Garr. She always made class time so much fun and had the best jokes. She also made sure we all knew we could come to her with any questions or if we needed any help.

Have you done internships? Do you plan to? I am currently interning in Merida and would love to do another one this summer.

Hobbies/Interests: I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. My favorite thing to do is have game nights. I like reading, going to sporting events with my friends and kayaking.

Why did you choose Central: I chose Central because it just “clicked.”  I visited other schools and knew I would be fine at any of them, but after coming to Central, I had an overwhelming sense of peace and knew that this is what felt like home to me. It also helped that both of my parents went to Central and raved about their time here.

Favorite food in Central Market: It’s a toss-up between their mini corn dogs and fresh cookie Tuesday.

What has been your favorite Central Memory so far? It’s been going to Sunday brunch with all my friends after church on Sunday and my adventures in Wales and Merida.

What do you like about your major? I like that my major prepares us for a variety of career paths. The human body is super interesting, so I love learning more about it each day!

What book are you currently reading/what is your favorite book? I am currently reading “Do Hard Things: A Teenage Rebellion Against Low Expectations” by Alex and Brett Harris. My favorite book is any from the Harry Potter series.

What are your plans after graduation? To attend graduate school for a chiropractic degree and one day start my own business.
