Chad ’97 and Valerie Roush Huyser ’97

For Chad ’97 and Valerie Roush Huyser ’97 of Pella, supporting Central is all about supporting students. The Huysers’ consistent and generous donations to the Journey Scholarship Fund make it possible
for more students to attend Central.

“Had it not been for financial aid, I might not have been able to consider Central,” Chad says. “People made it possible for us. If we can help one or two students who may not be able to afford Central, we’re paying it forward.”

Chad and Valerie met at Central, where both were extremely involved on campus. Valerie, a chemistry major, now works as regional account manager, U.S. Metabolics at Alexion Pharmaceuticals. She says being connected across campus was a big part of Central’s appeal. “For both of us, it was a chance to participate in so many activities, which were outstanding opportunities to engage with other students and faculty,” she says.

Chad, who is vice president at Lely North America, agrees. He says, “What stands out most is the diversity of opportunities. If you look at all the things I had a chance to be involved in—golf, student senate, intramurals, music—at other types of institutions I wouldn’t have had all of those opportunities.”
