Outdoor Pursuits takes place four days a week. Course content includes rock climbing, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, raft building, rappelling, camping, mountaineering, and hiking. Possible complementary activities include canyoneering, coasteering, orientation/navigation, bouldering, zip wires, indoor climbing wall, and high and low level ropes courses. Each activity is structured along a learning continuum of experiences that progresses from the level of basic skills, knowledge and attitudes to the beginnings of intermediate level work in which core learning is developed and applied in more challenging and self-reliant situations.
Located on the doorstep of Snowdonia, in the hauntingly beautiful mountainous region in northwest Wales, you are minutes from the Irish Sea, yet connected to the remainder of Great Britain through the inexpensive rail system. Snowdonia National Park, with is mountains and lakes, fast flowing rivers and rugged terrain, is famous for its outdoor pursuits opportunities.
Combining university bustle and small city calm, Bangor is a coastal gem nestled at the foothills of Snowdonia National Park, home to the largest mountain range in the U.K.
All Central College Abroad students live in the modern residence halls at Bangor University, which include private rooms/bathrooms and a shared kitchen area. Meals are not included in the program fee, but take advantage of shopping downtown Bangor. Eat a meal out among locals or take groceries home where the communal kitchens are a popular place to gather and get to know other students.
Excursions will include (weather permitting) an outdoor experience in the beautiful Snowdonia region, day trips to Liverpool and Chester, visits to medieval castles and other sites of historical significance for Wales.
