Laurie Sutten Flynn '88

Softball, women's basketball Laurie Sutten Flynn '88

An integral part of the foundation for Central's softball dynasty, Flynn pitched the Dutch to their first NCAA Division III title in 1988. Her walk-off grand slam in the 1986 regional final gave Central its first national tourney berth as the Dutch earned national runner-up honors. She helped Central finish fourth nationally in 1987 before posting a 21-5 record for the 1988 national champs. Flynn was a two-time first-team All-America pick, team MVP and national all-tourney team selection as well as 1987 Iowa Conference MVP. At the time of her induction, her 0.76 career earned run average ranked second in Central history. She also lettered once in women's basketball.

A Marshalltown native, Flynn was inducted into the Iowa Girls' High School Athletic Union's Hall of Fame in 1990. She has served as an elementary school teacher and high school coach.
