Men's golf | March 31, 2014

PELLA—Central College’s Adam Squires (junior, Waterloo, Columbus HS) was named Iowa Conference men’s golfer of the week following his first-round, 1-under-par 69, finishing tied atop the 87-individual leaderboard at the Webster Gorlok Invitational 18-hole turn.

Playing the par-70, 6,272-yard Forest Park Golf Course, Squires posted his career-best 18-hole score, tying with Dubuque’s Eric Wolfe and Edgewood’s Kenny Rucker in the medalist race after the first round.

His score helped Central’s first squad, the Red team, finish atop the 15-team leaderboard as well, with an opening round 295. Spalding was second with 297, while Dubuque was third with 298.

It’s the first career conference weekly award for the two-time NCAA Division III tournament participant.

Competition continued Monday with the final round at 10 a.m. at Sunset Country Club.
