Central’s Rushing lands second honor of the season

PELLA—Two weeks after earning his first career honor, Central College designated hitter Robbie Rushing (senior, West Des Moines, Valley HS) has been named to’s Team of the Week once again after batting .556 and finishing a single shy of a cycle in Thursday’s 12-9 win over Hamline (Minn.).

Rushing led the Dutch (8-3) with 10 hits in 18 at-bats while slugging 1.056 with five runs scored and seven runs batted in. He belted four doubles, one triple and one home run with only three strikeouts over four games. He was also 1-for-1 in stolen base attempts.

The effort helped Central win three of its final four Tucson Invitational Games. The Dutch shut out Crown (Minn.) 17-0, but dropped their doubleheader opener the next day against Marian (Wis.) 14-7. Central rebounded for an 8-5 win over the Sabres in the nightcap and closed out the trip with the win over the Pipers, in which Rushing finished 3-for-6 with a double, triple, home run and four RBIs.

It’s Rushing’s second career honor.

The Team of the Week is’s weekly honor roll, recognizing the top performances at each of the nine positions from the previous week.

Weather permitting, the Dutch return to the diamond for Wednesday’s game against the Grinnell College Pioneers (6-6), who won two out of three against Central in the season-opening series March 8-9.
