1993 NCAA Div. III champions
PELLA—Central College women’s basketball guard Kenzie Vander Molen (junior, Pella) has been named to the D3hoops.com All-West Region third team after leading the Dutch to their winningest campaign since 2004.
Vander Molen, a 2014 all-Iowa Conference first-team selection, averaged 16.2 points, 3.2 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game while starting all 25 games this season. The league’s second-leading scorer and passer led the Dutch to a program-best 6-0 start and finished 11-14 overall with two Iowa Conference wins in the season’s final 10 days. She was also fourth in the conference in steals with 1.7 per game.
Vander Molen posted career highs with 30 points at Loras Jan. 18, seven assists against Nebraska Wesleyan Nov. 26 and seven rebounds on two occasions. She also snagged four steals at Martin Luther (Minn.) Dec. 7. Vander Molen’s breakout game was a 29-point performance in a one-point, come-from-behind win (76-75) over Luther Jan. 8, where her five-point spurt in the closing minutes set the stage for guard Courtney Kelderman’s (senior, Pella) game-winning 3-pointer with 3 seconds remaining.
Her 36 3-pointers this season tie for ninth on the school leaderboard, while her league-leading 119 free throws are fifth all-time at Central.
Vander Molen was Central’s first first-team all-league honoree since 2007.
Concordia-Moorhead’s (Minn.) Alley Fisher and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps’ (Calif.) Kimberly Scamman joined Vander Molen in the third-team backcourt, while Redlands’ (Calif.) Brittany Oster and St. Thomas’ (Minn.) Maggie Weiers made up the frontcourt. Loras’ Katie Langmeier, the 2014 Iowa Conference MVP, was the only other league selection, a second-team honoree.
