Central’s Rushing named to Team of the Week

PELLA—Central College baseball designated hitter Robbie Rushing (senior, West Des Moines, Valley HS) has been named to the Team of the Week after batting .615 and slugging 1.231 over the team’s opening weekend.

Rushing led the Dutch (1-2) with eight hits, two doubles, two home runs and six runs batted in over the three-game series against Grinnell College (2-1) Saturday at Jacksonville, Ill., and Sunday at Springfield, Ill.

After dropping the first two games of the series, Rushing helped Central rally for the third with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate, highlighted by a 3-run homer in the sixth inning. The four-bagger gave the Dutch an 8-6 lead, which would expand to the final score of 13-6 following a five-run seventh. Rushing also started the game on the mound, allowing four runs (three earned) over four innings with three strikeouts.

It’s Rushing’s first career honor.

The Team of the Week is’s weekly honor roll, recognizing the top performances at each of the nine positions from the previous week.

Next the Dutch head to Arizona for the Tucson Invitational Games. Central plays Friday at 10 a.m. (Pacific Time) against Dordt and at 1:30 p.m. against Bethany Lutheran (Minn.) to start the eight-game trip which concludes March 20.
