Men's soccer | Nov. 21, 2013

PELLA—The Central College soccer teams earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the 2012-13 academic year.

To receive the award, teams must post a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale). The Central women’s team, led by coach Mike Kobylinski, compiled a 3.54 GPA—tying for ninth among Division III schools—to achieve its second consecutive honor. The men’s team, guided by coach Garry Laidlaw, landed its first program honor with a 3.01 GPA.

The Dutch women earned their first program award with a 3.25 GPA in 2011-12.

Central was one of 182 schools—spanning all divisions—to have both the men’s and women’s programs earn the award. The Dutch men were one of 269 teams to earn the award, while the women were one of 593.

Iowa Conference schools Wartburg (men and women), Luther (men and women), Dubuque (men and women) and Coe (men) also received the distinction.
