Central’s Samson named to team

Football | Oct. 23, 2013

PELLA—Central College defensive lineman Danny Samson (senior, Baxter, CMB HS) has been named to the team of the week for the second time this season.

A 5-foot-11, 255-pound two-time letterwinner, Samson recorded a career high four sacks for 26 yards in a 23-13 comeback win over Buena Vista Saturday. He had five tackles for loss and 11 stops overall—also career highs—with a fumble recovery, quarterback hurry and a pass breakup. Samson leads the Iowa Conference with eight sacks for 52 yards. He has 31 tackles this season, including 15 tackles for loss for 71 yards.

Samson was first named to the team following a two-sack performance vs. Albion (Mich.) on Sept. 28—he was tabbed Iowa Conference defensive player of the week both weeks.

Central (3-3 overall, 1-2 conference) hosts league foe Luther College (2-4 overall, 1-2 conference) Saturday in Pella at 1 p.m.
