Central 14th in men’s track and field poll

PELLA—Central College is 14th in the men’s U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association Division III poll.

The Dutch slipped two notches from No. 12, the squad’s highest rating of the season. Central cracked two school records at the Drake Relays last week in the distance medley relay (9:55.87) and the 4x1600 relay (17:17.17). The distance medley crew of Drew Jackson (sophomore, Johnston)Philip Heisterkamp (senior, Jefferson, Jefferson-Scranton HS)Ben Schornack (senior, Urbandale) and Eli Horton (sophomore, Runnells, Southeast Polk HS) was cited as the Iowa Conference track events performer of the week. Eric Larson (sophomore, Waverly, Waverly-Shell Rock HS) received league male athlete of the week recognition after recording the top Division III decathlon mark at Drake with a personal-best score of 6,717 points.

Wis.-La Crosse is No. 1, followed by Wis.-Oshkosh. Wis.-Eau Claire jumped two spots to No. 3 with Whitworth (Wash.) fourth and Whittier (Calif.) fifth. Conference rival Wartburg fell three notches to No. 13.

Central is slated to compete at the Monmouth College (Ill.) Invitational Saturday, its final tune-up before the conference championships May 9-11.
