PELLA—Central College vaulted nine spots to No. 12 in this week’s U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association Division III poll.

The Dutch men, rated 21st last week, captured eight wins at the non-scored Central Open last Saturday. A small contingent of distance runners also competed at the Mt. SAC Relays in California, where Cole Decker (freshman, Des Moines, Dowling Catholic HS) shattered a 19-year-old school record in the 10,000-meter run (29:59.31) and Eli Horton (sophomore, Runnells, Southeast Polk HS) cracked his own school record in the 5,000 meters (14:12.4).

Wis.-La Crosse leads the poll for the second straight week. Wis.-Oshkosh is second followed by Whitworth (Wash.), which jumped three notches. Iowa Conference foe Wartburg College moved up two spots to No. 10.

Central is slated to compete at the Drake Relays in Des Moines Wednesday through Saturday and the Kip Janvrin Invitational in Indianola Thursday and Friday.
