DECORAH—Perennial Iowa Conference title contender Luther College overpowered the Central College men’s tennis team Saturday, 9-0.

Junior Kyle Freischlag (Downers Grove, Ill., Downers Grove South HS) and freshman West Adelman (Geneva, Ill.) waged a tight contest at No. 1 doubles before falling in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-1).

The Norse, rated No. 16 in the region, swept all six singles matches in straight sets and improved to 9-9 with a 2-1 mark in conference action. Luther has won 31 league titles and was on a five-year streak until Coe College triumphed in 2012.

Central slipped to 11-5 overall with a 3-2 mark against league competition. The Dutch travel to Indianola next Saturday for a triangular at Simpson College. Central faces North Central College (Ill.) at noon and Simpson at 3 p.m.
