Central hosts baseball hitting school

Baseball | Oct. 25, 2012

PELLA — Registration is open for the new five-week Central College Championship Hitting School for area baseball players.

The school will be conducted in H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse December 2 and 9, January 20 and 27 and February 10. Sessions for players age 9-13 will be held from 4-5:30 p.m. with players age 14-18 participating from 5:30-7 p.m.

The school will be led by Dutch head coach Adam Stevens with Central players and staff. Stevens, a two-time Iowa Conference coach of the year and last year’s D3baseball.com all-region coach of the year, piloted Central to the 2012 league championship. The Dutch racked up a school record 29 victories in 40 games last season and Stevens’ squads have averaged nearly 22 wins in nine seasons.

The hitting school will feature both individual and group hitting instruction and individual video swing analysis, along with instruction on bunting, count hitting, plate discipline, strike zone knowledge, hitting drills and preparation tips.

Cost is $125 for more than 7 hours of instruction. Players who sign up with three teammates receive $10 off per player and hitting school participants also receive discounted rates for the Central Baseball Holiday Clinic Dec. 27-28.

For more information and a registration form, go to http://www.central.edu/athletics/camps, or contact Stevens at stevensa@central.edu or 641-628-5396.
