DES MOINES— In its last match of an abbreviated fall season, the Central College men’ tennis team blanked Grand View University Thursday, 9-0.

The Dutch tallied five shutouts, including two in doubles play. West Adelman (freshman, Geneva, Ill.) and Kyle Freischlag (junior, Downers Grove, Ill., Downers Grove South HS) teamed at No. 1 doubles for an 8-0 win and Josh Forst (sophomore, Woodridge, Ill., Downers Grove South HS) and Collin Schares (sophomore, Johnston) paired at the No. 3 spot for an 8-0 victory.

In singles action, Frieschlag was 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. Tim Kahl (sophomore, Grinnell) and Pat Daly (senior, Shawnee, Kan., Shawnee Mission NW) also posted shutouts at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively.

“Grand View is just building its program and it won't be long before they’ll be a team to contend with,” coach Steve Tyler said. “They have good players up top, but aren’t as deep as we are.”

The Dutch close their non-traditional season at 2-0 overall, sweeping Buena Vista University 9-0 earlier this month. Central also had two individuals take runner-up honors at the Iowa Conference individual tournament Sept. 21-22.

“We accomplished what we wanted to this fall,” Tyler said. “We came together and built the team chemistry, we worked on our fitness, and we got some matches under our belt, learning how to win.”
