Central’s Adelman wins men’s tennis title

WATERLOO— Central College freshman West Adelman (Geneva, Ill.) captured the men’s tennis flight six singles title at the Ashford University Invitational Sunday.

Adelman topped Adam Meeker of St. Joseph’s 7-8 (5-0), 6-4. Earlier he defeated Ashford’s Brayton Rasche 6-0, 6-1, and received a bye.

Meanwhile, Bryn Boswell (senior, Pella) was a runner-up in the fourth flight of singles, falling to Carlos Pico of Ashford. Josh Forst (sophomore, Woodridge, Ill., Downers Grove South HS) was second in the seventh flight and David Bouska (senior, Altoona, Southeast Polk HS) placed second in the eighth flight.

A pair of Dutch doubles teams also took runner-up honors. Tim Kahl (sophomore, Grinnell) and John Seier (junior, Waverly, Neb.) were edged by Ashford, 8-6, in the third flight while Forst and Collin Schares (sophomore, Johnston) fell 8-1 to St. Joseph’s in the fourth flight.

Central began its nontraditional season Monday. The squad travels to Fort Dodge Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. dual against Buena Vista University.
