NORMAL, ILL.—Central College’s Taylor Hill (sophomore, Treynor) fired an even-par 72 to finish in a tie for second place at the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Invitational women’s golf tourney Sunday.

Hill claimed runner-up honors after winning the scorecard playoff. She improved her first-round score by six strokes and climbed from 15th to finish with 78-72—150. Hill was two shots behind medalist Lindsey Johnson from William Woods University.

“Taylor had a tough up and down on the last hole to shoot even,” coach Tim Wilkinson said. “She handled the pressure well and played really well.”

The Dutch finished 14th with 342-343—685. William Woods won the 22-team tourney with 309-298—607. Ashley Smith (senior, Johnsburg, Ill.) tied for 62nd with 81-92—173, Kelsey Van Tasell (sophomore, Pella) tied for 73rd with 90-85—175, Chelsey Shuey (freshman, Ames) tied for 103rd with 93-95—188 and Emily Fisher (freshman, Wapello) was 105th with 97-94—191.

“We’re still searching for consistency,” Wilkinson said. “With two freshmen in the top five we’re a somewhat young team, but we’ll keep chipping away and working hard to peak at the right time.”

Central travels to Cedar Falls next weekend for an 18-hole dual against William Penn University at the Pheasant Ridge Golf Course, the same course the Dutch will play the following weekend for the first two rounds of the Iowa Conference tournament.
