Central lands three league performers of the week

Men's track | May 1, 2012

PELLA — Central College’s Ethan Miller (senior, Seymour), the men’s distance medley relay team and Justin Livingston (junior, Winterset) have been named Iowa Conference performers of the week in their respective sports.

Miller was cited as the men’s field events athlete of the week for track and field after scoring 7,076 points at the Drake Relays decathlon last week. Miller, the 2011 defending national champion, placed fourth and was the top Division III competitor. The point total puts Miller at the top of the Division III list and is just shy of his career best (7,170).

Recognized on the track, the all-freshman distance medley relay squad shattered a 32-year school record at the Drake Relays. Drew Jackson (Johnston), Alex Edwards (Knoxville), L.J. Lipscomb (Johnston), and Eli Horton (Runnells, Southeast Polk HS) crossed the line in 10 minutes, 3.25 seconds and finished fifth in the college division. The time was over seven seconds faster than the previous record of 10:10.47 set in 1980.

Livingston was the men’s golfer of the week and shared the honor with Garrett Cross of Coe and Sam Hermann of Loras. The three are tied for the lead at the midway point of the 72-hole league tournament. Livingston, the 2011 runner-up, carded 80-74—154 after the first two rounds, played at Central’s home course, Bos Landen Golf Club. The final 36 holes are contested at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City May 4-5.
