Softball | April 25, 2012

PELLA — Central College remains No. 6 in the NFCA Division III softball coaches’ poll.

The Dutch, 30-6, split an Iowa Conference doubleheader with Simpson College Saturday before sweeping Buena Vista University Tuesday at Storm Lake. Central closes the league and regular-season home slate Saturday, taking on Loras College in a 2 p.m. twinbill.

Emory University (Ga.) takes over the top spot with a 31-3 mark, followed by Eastern Connecticut State (31-1). Defending champion Linfield College (Ore.) dropped from first to third after falling twice to No. 5 Pacific Lutheran (Wash.) in the Northwest Conference tournament last weekend. Pacific Lutheran won the tournament and the league’s automatic berth in the 61-team NCAA Division III tourney.

Conference rival Luther College (32-4) is still No. 4 Coe College (29-9) inched up a spot to No. 20.
