Central lands 7 on academic all-conference team

PELLA—Seven Central College student-athletes have earned spots on the academic all-Iowa Conference winter team.

To qualify for the honor a student-athlete must compete in varsity play, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and achieve a 3.5 or better cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale).

Four of the honorees are members of the women’s basketball team while three are from the wrestling squad.

Among those cited are junior wrestler Reid Imerman (Guthrie Center), a 2009-10 National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar all-American, and junior basketball player Sarah Paulson (Ottumwa) a 2010-11 honorable mention league pick.   

Sophomore AJ Crone (Burlington) tops the list in grade point average. He carries a 3.91 GPA with an exercise science major.

This is the third straight season basketball player Jordan Waddell (senior, Guthrie Center) has received the honor. All three additional basketball selections earned the honor last year, as did Imerman.

Central had 41 student-athletes on the fall sports squad.
