Central College's Ron Schipper Fitness Center, opened in 1999, is the capstone to the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex.
Named in honor of College Football Hall of Fame coach, Ron Schipper, the fitness center was his dream. The building features a 7,200-square foot strength and conditioning area, one of the largest of any college or university in Iowa, and is open to all Central students, not just athletes. The second floor includes a 1,200-square foot multipurpose room for aerobics classes, cheerleading and pom squad practices, and tae kwon do workouts.
A full-time strength and conditioning coordinator, Kyle Johnson, serves as the Schipper Center director, joined by assistant strength and conditioning coordinator Charles Friday.
More than $130,000 of new strength and conditioning equipment was purchased for the facility in 2007. The equipment includes 11 power racks, platforms, power bars and competition Olympic barbells, all from Power Lift. The building also features Life Fitness selectorized cardiovascular equipment.
