Enjoy a day in Newton touring the Centre for the Arts and Artists where we will have the pleasure of meeting Nick Klepinger, who has gifted the community with several of his pieces of sculpture. Nick will enlighten us on his inspirations and techniques in creating his works.
We will also meet Herman Deaton a 91-year-old sculptor who, along with the help of Rick Stewart, has completed a life size sculpture of a horse that will be displayed at the Newton Historical Museum. We will tour the center and meet other working artists. A box lunch will be served at the Centre with more opportunity to visit with Nick, his wife, Linda, and Herman and his family.
Our next stop will be the Newton Historical Museum, noted as one of the best small-town museums in Iowa. We will there be able to view the Deaton work and spend time touring the museum. It will be a great day of culture and history.
Limited transportation available from Central, on a first-come, first-served basis.
