STEM Camp Visit Days

Use Every Last Brain Cell

If science is your thing (think beakers, bats and blow torches), explore the world of STEM at Central College during our exciting, hands-on STEM Camp Visit Days, June 25 and 26.

Join us for one day — or both! Make connections, tour campus, get your hands dirty and discover the possibilities Central College can offer you. You can even choose to stay overnight on campus!

Our professors are the catalyst to your success, and you’ll see why as you spend one-on-one time with them. They’ll invite you to their labs (both indoor and outdoor) and are excited to get to know you. There is no cost to attend.

  • Bat Net Crazy
Join Professor Russ Benedict and his students as they explore prairies and attempt to catch bats in the woods at night.
  • Dolphins and Dimensions
Use statistics to investigate whether dolphins can communicate and explore what it means to be “between” dimensions.
  • Hidden Structures and Heat
Using a thermal imaging camera and engineering design, explore the concept of heat transfer: design, build and discover hidden structures and glaring inefficiencies in models of an ordinary home.
  • Human Movement: The Why and What
Discover aspects of the human body through understanding what structures are called, how they work together and why that’s so important to human movement.
  • Picobot: Robots, Logic and Computer Science
Learn how to program a “picobot” to move around in its environment and discover fundamental concepts of computer science.
  • Slime, Time, and Alchemy
Put on your own demo show featuring fun chemistry reactions such as slime, clock reaction, liquid nitrogen, elephant toothpaste and turning pennies into “gold.”
  • What’s your DNA sequence?
Determine your genotype for a gene involved with tasting bitter flavors. Use the common techniques of forensics and genetic research labs and extract your own DNA, determine your genotype and see if it matches your phenotype.
