Join us June 28 and 29, 2018.
If science is your thing (think beakers, bats and blow torches) come to Central’s STEM Exploration June 28-29.
Our professors are the catalyst to your success, and you’ll see why as you spend one-on-one time with them. They’ll invite you to their labs (both indoor and outdoor) and are excited to get to know you.
Learn about research, Central’s community and what it means to make an impact at Central College, and choose from the following workshops when you arrive:
Up Close and Personal with Bats
Join professor Russ Benedict and his rowdy bunch of students as they explore prairies and try to catch bats in the woods at night; dinner and fun included!
Slime, Time, and Frozen Fruit
Students will put on their own demo show featuring fun chemistry reactions such as luminal, liquid nitrogen, clock reaction, slime or elephant toothpaste.
Make the Sun Work for You – Engineering for Sustainability
Design, build, and test a solar hot water heater. Choose your materials, decide on your water flow rate, and test your results. Close the design loop by redesigning and retesting to beat your previous results!
Buzzzzzz on Over: Honey Bees
Did you know that Iowa has about 400 species of native bees? Come learn about their diversity. Learn how to collect and observed them under the microscope. And find out about the research being done to save them.
Statistics with Dolphins and Mathematically Claiming an Inheritance
Investigate how dolphins use statistical thinking (they’re so smart!) and learn about how mathematically easy it is to divide an inheritance.
