Merida in a snapshot

Emma Putnam, Central College Abroad Spain ’12 and London summer ’13 alumnus, will have her first photography exposition at the Marista University in Merida, Yucatan opening today, Nov. 27, 2013. Central College Abroad has had a partnership with the Marista University for many years..

An internship with the Museo de la Ciudad de Merida (The City of Merida Museum) originally drew Putnam to Merida.  Interning with the museum this semester, Putnam has learned all aspects of art management.  The knowledge and skills she was acquiring through the semester quickly became relevant when she found out she had the opportunity to display her photography. Her co-workers have also been key in helping gather materials and setting up the opening night.

Putnam’s expositionis titled “Desde mi punto de vista…” or “From my point of view.” Hoping to capture a moment of tranquility in the lives of Meridians, Putnam snapped photos of her subjects from behind.  She wants viewers to feel as though they are looking through the eyes of the subject and reflect on what the subject is observing.  The idea is to “walk a mile in their shoes,” or at least a moment.
