Notes @ Noon concert features Ty Myers on violin

PELLA — Central College’s Ty Myers, instructor of music and director of orchestra, will perform the semester’s second Notes @ Noon concert Wednesday, Nov. 4, in Cox-Snow Recital Hall. The concert begins at noon and is free and open to the public.

Ty MyersMyers, a violinist, will perform Eugene Ysaye’s 4th violin solo sonata. Ysaye was a violinist, composer and magnificent performer as well as a masterful teacher at the Brussels Music Conservatory at the turn of the 20th century. His music is very powerful yet portrays the fogginess of French Impressionism as well.

Myers also will perform “Theme,” “Jewish Town” and “Remembrances” from the film score to “Schindler’s List” by John Williams. Williams has composed music for hundreds of movies including “Star Wars” and “The Terminal.” The music from “Schindler’s List” is an example of some of his finest. Heart-felt and warm, it musically portrays the emotional strength of the Jewish people.

Finally, Myers will play “Recitative and Scherzo” by Fritz Kreisler, who was born in Vienna and had a Viennese charm in his playing that has never been successfully reproduced. Kreisler made faster playing just as elegant as slow, lyrical passages, and he has been perceived unanimously as one of the great gentlemen of the violin.
