PELLA — Central College will host a Cinco de Mayo Percussion Extravaganza concert featuring the Percussion Ensemble, the Percussion Methods class and Flying Pans Steel Band Tuesday, May 5, in Douwstra Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. The groups are under the direction of Stan Dahl, assistant professor of music at Central College. The concert is free and open to the public.
The program includes “October Mountain” by Alan Hovhaness, “Carpe Diem” by Susan Powell and “4 Stories for Four Complete Drum Sets” by Louie Bellson. The Percussion Ensemble, along with the Percussion Methods class, will join together to perform “African Welcome Piece” by Michael Udow. The ensemble and Flying Pans will play “El Tilingo Lingo” by Traditional and arranged by John Currey. All three groups will perform “Manteca” by Gilespie/Fuller/Pozo and arranged by Wooldridge and Dahl.
