The Central College (Epsilon Lambda) Chapter of Phi Sigma Iota International Foreign Language Honor Society held its 2005-2006 initiation ceremony in the Maytag Student Center on November 29, 2005. Five students were initiated. Faculty Advisors Dr. Patricia Westphal and Dr. Carol Wallace conducted the initiation ceremony.

Phi Sigma Iota recognizes outstanding ability and high standards of students and faculty of foreign languages, literatures and cultures (including classics, linguistics, philology, comparative literature ESL, bilingual education, and second language acquisition). It is the highest academic honor in the field of foreign languages.  Phi Sigma Iota has initiated over 50,000 members since its foundation in 1917, and it has created and supports numerous scholarship programs. It has chapters in 250 colleges and universities in the U.S.A., Mexico, France and the Virgin Islands. The Epsilon Lambda Chapter at Central College was installed in April 2002.
