Conversation Labs

One of the unique features of language study at Central College are the conversation labs which are an integral part of classes at all levels. Students meet in small groups twice a week to practice skills or discuss ideas from their classes in the target language. Native-speaker language assistants conduct all labs at the intermediate level and above.

Upper-level students, most of whom have been abroad, often help conduct beginning-level labs, especially in Spanish. This gives students a chance to strengthen their own language skills and help other students while earning money for college. It's especially good experience for those who want to be teachers.

The native-speaker language assistants also live in the Language Houses in the Wing International Center and provide students with a variety of opportunities to interact in the language and gain cultural understanding.
