Teaching and research interests: Modern Chinese history, American cultural and ethnic history, anthropology, comparative family history, women’s studies, Manchu language.

Summer Research in China

Courses in Chinese available at Central College:

Chinese Language and Culture: An introduction to Chinese language--skills and structure combined with reading and discussion in English of selected topics on the culture of China.

Beginning Chinese I: Introduces the fundamentals of vocabulary and grammar necessary for the development of reading, writing and conversation skills. Establishes the foundation for the development of basic communicative skill and introduces students to the Chinese world.

Beginning  Chinese II: A consolidation of the foundations established in the Beginning Chinese I. Continues work in pronunciation, grammar, character writing, sentence structure and vocabulary. Further develops basic communicative skills and a greater cultural awareness of the Chinese world.

Although offered less often, Intermediate Chinese courses may also be available. All courses in Chinese are offered through the Division of Cross-Cultural Studies.
