2008 Summer REU Programs - NSF Master List

This is the National Science Foundation's master list of Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU's). REU's are summer programs at colleges and universities around the country for outstanding mathematics majors who are interested in learning to perform mathematical research, meet other students from around the country and to be exposed to new mathematical points-of-view.

REU at the University of Iowa

University of Iowa VIGRE Heartland REU

June 8 — July 31, 2009

Program

The NSF VIGRE-Heartland REU is designed for highly motivated students who have completed their first two years of college. Younger or more advanced students will be considered.

All aspects of our program will be run in close cooperation with the NSF Alliance program. Students will have the opportunity to share mathematics and share community with ethnically diverse tudents from around the country.

Stipend

Students will receive a stipend of $3,200 (which includes a stipend for breakfast and lunch) as well as room and a dinner contract on campus. All reasonable travel expenses to and from Iowa City for the program will also be reimbursed.

Eligibility

While preference is given to students attending a Heartland Partnership School, any undergraduate student who is a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident may apply.

Summer 2008 - Camp Invention Counselors Needed

Camp Invention is a non-profit science and creativity summer day camp for children entering grades 1-6. The camp lasts for one week, June 23-27, 2008, and will be held at Madison Elementary School in Pella each day from 9-3:30pm.

The organizers are looking for counselors with an interest in working with children and also with an interest in education/teaching. The pay is slated at $175 for the week's worth of work.
