Stats tutoring opportunity
From Cheri Doane:
Last week I attended a meeting of the Central Iowa Latino Providers (I quite a bit of interaction with this group, because it is made up of many current and potential service-learning partners). The convener of that group, Frank Dunn, recently started a Master's program in Public Policy, and he's taking statistics this semester. His academic strengths lie in areas other than math, and he's having a hard time with the course. He's seeking a tutor, and he is willing to pay. With the price of gas, it might not be particularly lucrative, but if any students live in the Des Moines are and go home on weekends they might find it worthwhile. Even though this is a grad level class, Frank believes that an undergrad with strong skills in the field could help him a great deal. Frank is Latino, and he is a strong leader who is recognized as rising star in Iowa. He would be a great contact for students who want to network with Des Moines area leaders. (I Googled "Frank Dunn, Des Moines, Latinos" and got dozens of hits about the work he's doing in Iowa. If you have students who are interested in this, have them e-mail me.
