Johnson named Denekas Endowed Chair in Science and Humanities.
The President and Provost are delighted to name Dr. Mark Johnson, Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science, as the Denekas Endowed Chair in Science and Humanities. Mark’s colleagues have previously honored him with an Outstanding Performance Award for Teaching and the prestigious Weller Chair. Mark is an exceptional intellect who brings thoughtful wisdom to all his interactions. Mark’s combination of humility, intellect and compassion are essential attributes for Central’s community of scholarship and a wonderful model for students. Mark’s important contributions to the development of Intersections were essential to its current success and make readily apparent his commitment to interdisciplinary liberal arts education. His work to shift his disciplinary focus from Mathematics to Computer Science, and to advance the development of the Computational Science major are additional evidence of Mark’s commitment to an intellectual lifestyle that embodied the liberal arts. Finally, Mark’s love of fine arts is obvious with his regular attendance at campus events as is his voice in his active participation with Community Chorus.
