June 17, 2003 - The section had a number of people who participated as Readers at the reading of the Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus exam on June 2-8 at Colorado State University. Among the 630 readers this year were: Al Hibbard and Mark Mills from Central College; Monica Meissen from Clarke College; Susan Harthun and Kory Swart from Kirkwood Community College; Robert Keller from Loras College; Doug Shaw from Northern Iowa University; Rebecca Hannasch from Ankeny High School; Linda Muhly from Iowa City West High School; and Wesley Day from Norwalk High School. This year, around 208,000 exams were graded during the seven-day reading. With each exam having six questions, that meant that almost 1.25 million questions were graded by the 630 participants.
AP is regularly seeking college faculty to participate in the Calculus reading. Their goal is to have 60% of the readers being college faculty and the other 40% being high school teachers. This year, the ratio was approximately 50/50. If you are a college faculty member who may be interested in participating in the Calculus reading, feel free to contact one of the people mentioned above, or look at the AP web site www.apcentral.collegeboard.com.
