Library's Databases Page -- http://www.central.edu/library/databases.htm

We have four databases provided through EBSCOhost. The following are the descriptions provided by Ebsco Publishing (http://www.epnet.com/database.html). The titles of the databases are linked to a list of the journals which are full-text through EBSCOhost.

"Academic Search Elite
Academic institutions worldwide depend on this database for their core resource of scholarly information. With its large coverage of peer-reviewed journals, Academic Search Elite offers critical information from leaders in many disciplines. The diverse content available will assist students in performing a more thorough investigation of their research topics. Academic Search Elite is a valuable resource for your main library, supporting core curriculum, degree requirements and elective classes. This scholarly collection includes embedded images and provides journal coverage for most academic areas of study—including biological sciences, economics, communications, computer sciences, engineering, language and linguistics, arts and literature, medical sciences and women's studies. Academic Search Elite features:

"Business Source Plus
We keep expanding our business content to bring you more of the popular national, regional and international business titles you need for your research. Whether you are a business student or a professional, Business Source Plus offers information that will enhance your research, from case studies to original research to firsthand perspectives from business leaders. We've enhanced the quality of the data by including the corresponding charts, graphs and embedded images for many of the journals. With Business Source Plus you can find titles covering such topics as accounting, banking, finance, international business, management, marketing, real estate, regional studies, sales, trade and technology. Business Source Plus contains:

"Business Source Elite
Business Source Elite provides full text from nearly 1,050 journals covering business, management, economics, banking, finance, accounting and much more. In addition to the full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for nearly 1,690 journals. This database contains popular business publications such as Business Week, Forbes, and Harvard Business Review, and hundreds of scholarly, peer reviewed journals. Also included is Wall Street Words, a dictionary of financial terms, linked directly to words within the citations and full text. Full text backfiles go as far back as January of 1990, while indexing and abstract backfiles go as far back as January of 1984. This database is updated daily on EBSCOhost."

"EBSCO Online Citations
EBSCO Online Citations is a database of publisher-provided citations and table of contents information. Because many of these titles are scientific, technological or medical in nature, we are confident that you will find this database to be a useful addition to your collection.
With EBSCO Online Citations your users have the option to search over 2700 additional titles."

To find the Full-Text Available through EBSCOhost:

  1. Select the appropriate database for your topic
  2. Conduct a Search Limiting to Full-Text
  3. View resulting citations and articles

Creating Links to Full-Text Articles

EBSCOhost provides the option of creating "Persistent Links"...meaning, if you find a full-text article you would like to have someone else read, you can provide them with a direct hyperlink to the article without having them go through the search  process to find it.

Here's an example:

  1. Go to Academic Search Elite.
  2. Search for Eggers, David, limiting to Full-Text
  3. Select two of the articles by placing a checkmark in the Mark column
  4. Click Print/Email/Save
  5. Select Only Marked Items
  6. Select Links to Marked Items
  7. Select If Available as Full-Text Yes
  8. Select Delivery Method via Email
  9. Fill in your Email address
  10. Click Submit
  11. Check your e-mail and you'll see something like THIS

FirstSearch

Library's Databases Page -- http://www.central.edu/library/databases.htm

FirstSearch is comprised of over 60 databases. Some provide full-text, some provide selected full-text, and some are citation only. Each database will have this information provided from the Information screen.

  1. Go to New FirstSearch
  2. Choose List All Databases
  3. Notice the right hand column. A Full-Text icon can be seen after certain databases.

Example search:

  1. Choose SocSciAbs by placing a checkmark in the box
  2. Type "underage drinking" as a keyword search
  3. Select Full-Text
  4. See the list of results
  5. Notice the first record retrieved indicates that our library subscribes to the journal (so you wouldn't HAVE to view the full-text online)
  6. You can click on the Full-Text icon to view the full article...print/e-mail from there

The following link will allow you to search for a specific journal title and find out which database in FirstSearch indexes it. You will also be able to determine if full-text of the title is available.
