POSITION: Assistant or Associate Professor of Communication Studies (Journalism)
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full time, tenure track appointment to begin August 2009.
QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. (ABD considered) The successful candidate must be strongly committed to teaching undergraduates in a liberal arts setting and demonstrate teaching excellence. Candidates for Associate Professor should also demonstrate an established professional career in Communication Studies and Journalism.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include teaching a range of courses in communication and media studies: Introduction to Communication Studies; Introduction to Journalism; Advanced Journalism (including online journalism); and Media Criticism. The successful candidate will also supervise the campus print and online newspapers. Teaching load is six courses per year, which includes a course release for serving as advisor for the print and online newspapers. Ability to instruct students in basic radio and/or video production is an additional favorable applicant attribute.
COMMUNICATION STUDIES DEPARTMENT: The department has four full-time professors and two part-time adjunct instructors. The Communication Studies program provides students with a broad-based exposure to the academic discipline that focuses on human symbolic interaction. In an effort to cultivate critical thinking, clear writing, articulate speaking, and proficiency with technology, our students study communication within interpersonal, group, organizational, public, and mediated contexts.
