Jazzmania features a day of competition for high school and junior high school jazz ensembles. Each performing group will present a 20 minute program. Adjudicators and clinicians will give comments and performance tips for each ensemble. An evening concert featuring a guest clinician and the Central College Jazz Ensemble, directed by Gabriel Espinosa, ends the day on a high note. The concert is at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $10 for adults and $5/students and senior citizens and free with Central ID.

Central College's annual Singfest brings together high school choir students from all over Iowa. The choir is made up of 80-90 of the top vocal students nominated by their high school choir directors. Throughout the day students will also work with Central's own music faculty in mini-lessons or workshops. A festival concert at 7 p.m. highlights the day's activities and features selected soloists from the choir. The Central College High School Stringfest will have an exciting program in mind including works by Tchaikovsky, Elgar, and Vivaldi, which has some solos for principals, and we hope perform a piece in which the high school players get to play side-by-side with the College Community Orchestra. We will be discussing and putting into practice the important elements that encompass a mature, musically sensitive musician. This year we will be having everybody audition. This is primarily so that all students become familiar with their parts and we can begin from a high starting point. The registration deadline is January 9, 2009.
