Central Awards for New Freshmen and Transfer Students

Eligibility and Awarding
1. Student must be admitted to Central prior to their audition, interview, and/or portfolio review.
2.
Audition/interview dates are Saturday, February 7, 14, and 21, 2009. An individual audition/interview may also be arranged by contacting Dr. Terri Snyders Crumley (contact info below).
3. Audition/interviews must be completed by Saturday, February 21, 2009.
4. Students submitting an art and/or creative writing submission need to have their works postmarked by Saturday, February 14, 2009.
5. Students may audition/interview in up to two areas but will be awarded only one Central Award.

Scholarships are renewable for four years. To retain the scholarship from year to year, students are expected to be involved in the awarding department.

. Students may receive one “Central Award” in addition to their academic scholarship. Kuyper, Pella Rolscreen, and Dykstra scholarship recipients are not eligible for Central Awards.

Art Award - Up to $2,000
Students (majors and nonmajors) interested in continuing their study of art at the college level. Students must submit a portfolio and a letter of recommendation to the art faculty postmarked no later than February 14, 2009. Students are strongly encouraged to visit Central's campus and art department prior to their portfolio submission.

Communication Studies Award - Up to $2,000
Students (majors and nonmajors) interested in continuing their study of communication and/or participation in communication activities (newspaper or radio) at the college level. An interview with faculty and a letter of recommendation are required.

Creative Writing Award - Up to $2,000
Students (majors and nonmajors) interested in continuing their study of creative writing at the college level. Students must submit written works and a letter of recommendation to the English faculty, postmarked no later than February 14, 2009. Students are strongly encouraged to visit Central's campus and English department prior to submission of their work.

Modern Language Award (French, German, Spanish) - Up to $2,000
Students (majors and nonmajors) interested in continuing their study of language (French, German, and/or Spanish) at the college level. A proficiency exam, oral interview, and letter of recommendation are required.

Music Award - Up to $2,000
Students (majors and nonmajors) interested in continuing their participation in music at the college level. An audition with the music faculty is required.

Preministerial Awards - Up to $2,000
Students who are interested in pursuing a career in the ministry or other church related vocations and who demonstrate a record of involvement in school, church, and community activities. A personal essay and clergy/minister recommendation is required and must be submitted prior to January 15, 2009.

Theatre Award - Up to $2,000
For students (majors and nonmajors) interested in continuing their participation in theatre (acting or technical) at the college level. An audition/interview with the theatre faculty and a letter of recommendation are required.
