Why did you choose a Central religion major?
I wanted to seek out the history behind Christianity, as well as other religions, in order to have a better understanding of them.
How has Central helped you grow spiritually?
I have gotten to co-lead The Calm with another student as well as study internationally with the International Church of Leiden and retreat in Belgium. I have been able to meet Christians from around the world, including Africans, Indians, Norwegians and others. I love the diverse and unified Christian community.
What do you see as your calling after graduation?
I am still working on discerning that. I know I will love God with all my heart, soul, mind and strength and loving people with the same love Christ bestows upon me.
I am considering starting a non-profit organization or a Christian coffee shop. I am also looking into graduate work at schools that offer both social work and theology education.
Favorite Bible verse?
Colossians 3:14 – “And the greatest article of clothing you can wear is love. Love is what binds us all together in perfect harmony.”
Advice for those thinking about pursuing a religion major:
Remember that classes are taught at an academic level, so you will be challenged to think beyond your Western Christian Orthodox upbringing (if this is the case). You will experience various faith cocoons — don’t be afraid to question things. God would not be God if we could understand and fathom Him completely.
