in collaboration with Stephen Johnson, has papers accepted for the meetings of
professional organizations such as the Ecological Society of America (Madison,
Wisconsin), the Association of Literature about the Environment (Flagstaff,
Arizona), the Native American Symposium (Laramie, Wyoming), and Sigma Xi, The
Scientific Research Society (Raleigh, North Carolina).

participated in the Information Literacy Workshop at Central.

visited Wolf Ridge in Finland, Minnesota (Central has joined the consortium of
Superior Studies).

in collaboration with Cathy Haustein, has worked with four students on a
Monticello Grant for the merger of science and literature. Megan Atchison,
Anna Haustein, Stephanie Kleven, and Jenny Stahr worked on water quality issues,
prairie, environmental history, and sustainable agriculture in Iowa. The
group visited Grinnell College's Center for Prairie Studies as well as the
Leopold Center in Ames. Stephen Johnson and Glenn Barnett also worked with
these four students.

in preparation to teach a course on Native American literature, ecology, and
history for the new American Ethnic Literature course, has toured some Native
American museums and historical sites with the help of a research and
development grant from Central.

serves as chair of the English Department.
