Why Psychology?
- The psychology department’s current facility presents challenges, specifically concerning technology and the ability to collaborate with colleagues in the education department who have similar priorities and areas of expertise.
- Space to host groups, such as the Iowa Teachers of Psychology and the Iowa Psychological Association, is not available.
Outcomes
At Central College, 25-30 percent of each year’s psychology graduates enrolls immediately in a graduate program, and eventually approximately 60 percent attain at least a master’s degree.
Of the 60 percent mentioned above, 25 percent eventually earn a terminal degree (usually a Ph.D. in psychology or counseling, but also in areas such as medicine and law).
15 percentof all Central College psychology graduates earn a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree, compared to 1 percent nationally.
