Roles of the Intern, Faculty Supervisor, & Site Supervisor
There are three parties who work together to make the internship experience a success.
Student Intern
- Clarify goals and career interests.
- Investigate sites and obtain internship position.
- Identify learning objectives.
- Register for credit.
- Work in a professional capacity; complete all assigned projects.
- Evaluate experience with employer and faculty supervisor.
Faculty Supervisor
- Discuss interests and sites with student.
- Develop academic component; assist with and sign registration form.
- Act as liaison between student and employer.
- Conduct site visit, communicate by telephone or e-mail as needed.
- Evaluate experience with student.
Site Supervisor
- Interview and place student.
- Provide position description and training.
- Provide professional experiences; assign special projects.
- Provide frequent guidance and feedback.
- Communicate as needed with faculty supervisor and Career Center.
- Evaluate student's performance.
