Leadership Development Institute

Are you a natural-born leader? The Leadership Development Institute is a series of developmental seminars for emerging young leaders. The program is reserved for a select number of nominated students and is designed to explore practical issues and some theoretical concerns related to leadership from the perspective of faculty and guest speakers. They are challenged to expand their existing understanding of leadership. Participants consider how new ways of thinking about leadership can inform their actions and make them more effective. In order to be recognized as successfully completing the Institute, students must attend all interactive sessions, complete a Saturday service project and maintain a journal.

Our vision for leadership includes preparing individuals to be:

• Responsive to the need for leadership in their local, regional and global communities
• Committed to understanding and actively pursuing creative solutions to community problems
• Respectful of the uniqueness of each person
• Intentional in the development of their interests, personal strengths and skills in order to better contribute to the common good
• Prepared to thoughtfully participate in making and assuming responsibility for decisions that affect quality of life for community members; and
• Appreciative and ready to support strong, positive leadership demonstrated by others.
