Snack and Meal Options
If we know one thing, it's that students want to know what the food is going to be like at college. There's nothing quite like grandma's mashed potatoes, but we do have some tasty options to fill you up.
Grand Central Station
If you don't have time for a full meal at the Central Market (see description below), GCS is your choice. It's located on the main level of Maytag Student Center, right in the middle of the bustle. They accept checks, cash and a Central College student ID to charge to a personal account. Serving quickly-made hot sandwiches and fries, soup and a light salad bar, Grand Central Station opens early and closes late. Hours are Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to Midnight; Saturday 2 p.m. to Midnight; and Sunday 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. GCS is frequently the setting for intimate, coffeebar style concerts, poetry readings, jazz combo and other performances.
Café @ Geisler Library
Need to be wired? Stop in to our wired-for-Internet coffee shop near the entrance of the campus library for coffee drinks, cold beverages, scones, bagels, muffins, pre-made sandwiches and ice cream. It's open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday. The Café will accept cash, check or a Central College student ID to charge to a personal account.
The Central Market
The Central Market is the main dining facility for the Central College community. Up to 600 people can quickly pass through the marché, or market setting, and find comfortable seating in the dining area. If you're in the mood for variety, we've whipped up twelve different stations to choose food from. Some are self-serve and others are made-to-order, and no matter what your taste, you're guaranteed All-You-Can-Eat! Check out this week's menu!
Hungry yet? Choose from salad, sandwiches, soup, Peace St. Pizza, the Mongolian Grill for Asian fare, the Red Rock Grill, Very Veggie station, Comfort Foods, a pasta/Mexican station, Dutch Treats (desserts), breakfast cereals 24/7 and more!
The Central Market is lit up with the familiar smiles of greeters and servers, music as you dine and good cheer as we celebrate special events such as Halloween, Renaissance Day and the annual Christmas Banquet. We're dedicated to giving you a dining experience that will leave you satisfied.
We also have rooms available for special events such as meetings, parties or catered events. They need to be reserved in advance by calling Central College Conference Coordinator, Lowell Olivier at on campus extension 7679 or 641-628-7679. They range in size to meet your specific needs. Check out the event planners Web site for more details!
