Three NCAA Div. III national titles
Iowa Conference coach of the year--2003, 2005, 2007
Kent Clayberg is entering his 11th season as head volleyball coach and his 16th year on the Central volleyball staff. He was an assistant coach for four years before being promoted to associate head coach in 2002 and then head coach in 2003.
A 1990 Central graduate, Clayberg has compiled a 227-119 (.656) record in 10 seasons as head coach, winning five Iowa Conference titles and earning four NCAA Division III playoff berths. He was the Iowa Conference coach of the year in 2007 after sharing the honor in 2003 and 2005.
Clayberg has been an instrumental part of a Dutch program which has produced three NCAA Division III championships, 11 NCAA playoff berths and 17 Iowa Conference titles.
He has been selected three times to coach all-star squads in international competition through USA Athletes International, Inc. He coached a Division III team in the Netherlands in 2001, took a squad of Division II all-stars to the Northern University Games in Cairn, Australia in 2005 and led a team of combined division players to Scotland in 2009.
Clayberg previously was an elementary school teacher at Boone, Iowa. He earned a master’s degree in education with a concentration in exercise physiology from Iowa State University. He was a student coach for the Cyclone volleyball team for one season and served as a club coach as well. Clayberg also teaches in Central’s exercise science department.

Former all-Iowa Conference player Monica McWilliams is entering her first season as assistant coach on the volleyball staff
McWilliams, a Williamsburg native, was a second-team all-league libero for Simpson College in 2010. She gained academic all-conference distinction as well and was part of the 2009 squad that won the league trophy and advanced to the NCAA Division III tournament.
Prior to Simpson, McWilliams was a two-time all-region pick at Des Moines Area Community College. She was a team co-captain and helped guide the Bears to a league championship and two NJCAA tourneys.
McWilliams spent a season as an assistant coach at Williamsburg High School and over two years coaching for the Johnston Volleyball Club. She was named the 2010 Iowa Volleyball Region junior female coach of the year after leading Johnston to the junior Olympic tournament.
At Central, McWilliams will also serve as intramural director.
Tara Kohlhaas is entering her third season as an assistant volleyball coach at Central, working with the varsity and also serving as head junior varsity coach.
A former team co-captain at Kirkwood Community College, Kohlhaas led the Eagles to two fifth-place finishes in the National Junior College Athletic Association championship before graduating from the Univ. of South Carolina Upstate with a degree in physical education.
Kohlhaas was as an assistant coach and head of the junior varsity at Marion High School, helping guide the varsity to a second-place conference finish. She coached the freshman squad in 2009. Kohlhaas served as a junior varsity coach at Belle Plaine High School from 2003-05, before being named head coach in 2007. Earlier she was an assistant coach at Mount Mercy University.
Former all-Iowa Conference libero Chelsea Toppin is entering her second season as assistant volleyball coach at Central College. She works with the junior varsity.
Toppin, a 2012 Central grad, earned first-team all-league recognition in 2010 and 2011 and was a second-team pick in 2009. Toppin holds the school’s career digs record (2,451) and season records for digs (822) and digs per set (6.18). A three-time academic all-league selection, Toppin also received second-team Capital One Academic All-District honors in 2011.
Toppin, a Pella native, also serves Central as a copywriter in the communications office.
