A star in the classroom and the field, Lindell was a part of four Iowa Conference championship football teams and three NCAA Division III playoff squads, including the 1984 national runners-up and 1985 national semifinalists. A Hudson native, Lindell was a three-year starter at Central. He shared the team tackles lead in 1986 with 120 and was a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America honoree as well as a two-time all-Iowa Conference selection.

Lindell received an NCAA postgraduate scholarship. A physics major at Central, Lindell earned a master's degree in electro-optic engineering from Dayton University and a master's of business administration degree from the University of Colorado at Denver . A program manager in surveillance systems at Lockheed Martin Corporation in Littleton, Colo., Lindell has received Lockheed Martin SSC's annual leadership award and annual operations achievement award, and three times was presented the corporation's annual technical achievement award. Since 2001 he's worked in the space superiority area after earlier working in electro-optic systems for remote sensing applications.
