Football | Aug. 1, 2014

PELLA – For the second consecutive season, Central College senior kicker Kevin Sheldon (West Des Moines, Valley HS) has been named to the Fred Mitchell Award preseason watch list.

Sheldon is one of 36 kickers named to a list that includes student-athletes from NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and junior college institutions. Sheldon is among 12 Division III kickers named, and the only Iowa Conference nominee.

The Fred Mitchell Award is handed out annually to the nation’s top kicker among more than 750 college programs.

A three-time first-team all-Iowa Conference selection, Sheldon ranked second among kickers in scoring (59 points) in the Iowa Conference in 2013, connecting on 10-of-15 field goal attempts and 29 extra points. He made seven of his final eight field goal attempts, including five in a row from Sept. 28 to Oct. 26. Sheldon has missed just one point-after try in the past two seasons and is 101-of-103 for his career.

Sheldon and the Dutch kick off the 2014 season Sept. 6 at Benedictine (Ill.) at 6:30 p.m.
