11 NCAA Div. III national team championships
PELLA — Central College has placed 28 student-athletes on the academic all-Iowa Conference spring sports squad.
For the year, Dutch student-athletes received academic all-conference recognition 75 times. Six were honored for the winter and 41 for fall sports.
To qualify for the distinction, a student-athlete must compete at the varsity level, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and achieve a 3.5 or better cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale).
The spring honorees led by accounting major Grant Seuferer (senior, Milo, Southeast Warren HS) of the Dutch baseball team, who graduated with a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA and exercise science-health promotion major Jordan Overland (senior, Boone) from the softball squad, who finished with a 3.97 GPA. They also received Central awards for having the highest GPAs for Dutch men’s and women’s senior student-athletes. In 2013, Overland received the NCAA Elite 89 Award for having the highest grade point average of any player in the NCAA Division III softball finals.
Another top performer, men’s tennis standout Kyle Freischlag (senior, Downers Grove, Ill., South HS), was accepted by the Duke University School of Medicine. He graduated with a 3.87 GPA and majors in biology and history.
