Baseball | May 21, 2014

PELLA — Central College designated hitter Robbie Rushing (senior, West Des Moines, Valley HS) is a first-team pick on the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III Central Region baseball squad.

He’s among three Dutch players honored. Shortstop Jordan Judkins (senior, Marshalltown) and pitcher Judson McKown (senior, Independence, Minn., Orono HS) are third-team selections.

All three players also received first-team all-Iowa Conference recognition.

Rushing, a two-time all-league pick, was Central’s top hitter with a .410 average. He hit a school season record 23 doubles and six home runs and drove in 46 runs.

McKown, a three-time all-conference honoree, posted a 6-3 record with a 1.50 earned run average. He threw six complete games, including three shutouts. In 66 innings he walked eight batters and struck out 29.

Judkins batted .379 with 11 doubles, five triples and 30 RBIs to go with a .957 fielding percentage.

Coach Adam Stevens’ squad posted a 28-16 record, for the second-highest win total in school history. The Dutch were 17-11 in conference play, finishing third, and placed second in the league tournament. Rushing, McKown and Judkins were part of a senior class that racked up 101 victories over the past four years.
