WALNUT, CALIF.—Three Central College men’s track student-athletes ran at the Mt. SAC Relays Thursday and Friday and each runner recorded top-20 times in Division III.

Eli Horton (junior, Runnells, Southeast Polk HS) and Austin O’Brien (senior, Bettendorf, Pleasant Valley HS) ran in two separate 5,000-meter runs Friday.

Running in the “A” race, Horton crossed the line in 14:15.66 for 18th. It improves on his season best by more than seven seconds and is the second-fastest time in Division III.

O’Brien ran in the “B” race and finished in 14:24.94 for 15th. His personal-best time is good for eighth in Division III.

Cole Decker (sophomore, Des Moines, Dowling Catholic HS) ran in Thursday’s Olympic Development Elite 10,000-meter run and finished 31st in 31:05.34. The time currently ranks No. 20 in Division III.

“Eli and Austin ran great races,” coach Joe Dunham said. “I was proud of the way they fought when the races got difficult. Cole had a tough weekend, but he’s going to learn from it. Now we need to get ready for the championship season.”

The full Central squads return to action next Wednesday through Saturday at the Drake Relays. Select athletes will also compete at the Kip Janvrin Open Friday and Saturday.
