11 NCAA Div. III individual championships
PELLA—Central College women’s track sprinter Abi Davis (sophomore, Des Moines, Dowling Catholic HS) and men’s track distance runner Drew Jackson (junior, Johnston) have been named Iowa Conference track events performers of the week following their efforts at Friday and Saturday’s Jim Duncan Invitational.
Davis finished fifth in the 200-meter dash in 25.31, less than 0.5 seconds off the pace. She was bested by runners from Drake, Northern Iowa and Iowa State. Davis also led the Dutch 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay teams to fourth- and fifth-place finishes, respectively.
Her 200 time ranks second in the conference and 28th in the nation.
It’s Davis’ second career league weekly honor since transferring to Central at semester, with her first coming during the indoor season.
Jackson made a splash Friday with a runner-up finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:31.86, bested by South Dakota State’s Andrew Thies, who finished five seconds faster. Jackson followed it up by taking Saturday's 1,500-meter run title in 3:57.71, edging teammate Eli Horton (junior, Runnells, Southeast Polk HS) by less than one second. Jackson was also a member of the Dutch 4x400-meter relay team that finished sixth in 3:23.85.
His steeplechase time ranks first in the conference and 23rd in the nation.
It’s Jackson’s fourth career league weekly honor, with three outdoor awards and one indoor award.
The Dutch are back in action Wednesday at the Central College Open. Field events are slated to begin at 2 p.m., with running events starting at 2:30 p.m. It’s the second home competition for the squads this outdoor season.
